Nicole Richie has been off my style radar for a while but this look really reminds me of how good she was and still is. There are so many things I like about this outfit, the vintage Chanel bag, the boots and the cute lace gloves. This is Nicole doing what she does the best, effortless chic. And can you believe that she just gave birth to a baby boy two moths ago?

Sex and the City will always be something special to me. (Especially for the sake that I did my dissertation on it, analyzing its impacts in terms of post-feminist culture within the current neo-liberal society. Sorry, boring stuff.) IMHO, the show had a perfect ending, which, of course, was ruined by the Sex and the City movie. And I was dead against the Sex and the City movie sequel and vowed to not make any comments about it. However after seeing these pictures, I’m literally speechless. What the hell was Miley Cyrus doing there? And why are she and Kim Cattrall wearing the same paillette detailed Mattew Williamson dress? The idea of her appearing in the movie just makes the whole thing so tacky. Both Kim and she look terrible here. There’s simply too much going on with the look. And I just don’t get the boots? How on earth would they go with the dress?

I used to love Charlotte’s style in the show. It may not be the most exciting one but she always looked so elegant and classic. Yes, I know Charlotte can be a bit up-tight and conservative but it doesn’t mean she has to math the colour of her dress, shoes and handbags every time. Seriously, can she look greener in the last picture? Fashion and style is effectively the fifth character of the show and I don’t think it’s been properly developed this time.

Dita s fashion shoot cjJy8OIF8CMl

Dita s fashion shoot rGDjLWLuBkTl

So this is Dita von Teese doing a ‘Harper’s Bazaar’ Fashion Shoot. And yes she is wearing THE dress which closed the sensational Christian Lacroix Haute Couture F/W 09 show. Honestly, Dita looks ridiculous. She’s wearing a Catholic inspired wedding dress with crucifixes on it with her usual stripper makeup, which I’m really getting tired of. I’d much prefer the dress on Vlada. The way it’s worn on the runway is so perfect. It’s such a shame that for an editorial it looses all its charm.

I love Pairs Fashion Week not only for the amazing designers showing during this time but also because I get to see the whole dreamy Vogue Pairs team which includes Carine Roitfeld, Geraldine Saglio, Ludivine Poiblanc, Emmanuelle Alt and my favourite Mélanie Utzmann Huynh. Mélanie is the epitome of Parisian style, chic and effortless. Remember how great she looked during her pregnancy? This time I found something a bit different about her style and with some colour as well, but no less in perfection. She managed to wear even the harshest trends with such class. And it must be repeated that her body is incredible. I cannot believe that a baby fit in that tiny stomach!

Emmy disaster with the gossip girls

I’m a die-hard Gossip Girl fan so you can image how I felt when I saw the looks of Blake Lively and Leighton Meester at the Emmy Awards. In fact, more disappointed than when I found out that the show wasn’t nominated in any major categories.

 92246_Celebutopia-Blake_Lively_arrives_at_the_61st_Primetime_Emmy_Awards-03_122_382lo

Let’s start with Blake, who won a red dress from Versace Fall 2009 collection. The colour of the dress is gorgeous but tack on a sleeve and change the color to teal it pretty much looks like the dress she won to the Met Gala. Her make-up and Lara Croft hair (which looks painful) isn’t helping either. I know it’s no longer cool to be following ‘rule’ when it comes to fashion, but I really think the ‘boobs or legs’ rule is really worthwhile. Blake never chooses either boobs or legs, but both of them. I love Blake and believe that she has so much more potential. I hope some day she’ll turn around and choose something that is more flattering and classy because this is just overkill. On top of that her complexion (blonde, tanned) – it’s already such a cliché in itself.

If I have to choose I think Leighton looked slightly better than Blake did but I was a boring look for her. She wore a white Bottega Veneta Fall 2009 gown. The dress looked terrific on the runway but I don’t think it works on Leighton. Neither does the hair nor the make-up, which makes her look tired and old. I guess this dress needs more elegant hair and would have looked better on someone with a taller frame. I just wish Leighton had taken a risk and worn something more interesting like she usually does.

Bryce d’Anice Aime S/S 2010 – BACKSTAGE!

Bryce d’Anice Aime presented his S/S 2010 collection at Fashion Vauxhall on Saturday and it was packed! People had to stand on the ledges and were literally overlapping each other on the runway benches. The show was brilliant. I absolutely loved the collection which channelled a mix between 50’s Parisian chic and outer space futuristic body con structures. I guess there is something very interesting about Bryce’s work, edgy but unapologetically chic. Sadly the battery of my camera went dead when the show started. I will try to find some pictures from the show and post them ASAP. Yet I was lucky enough to sneak into the backstage and took some pictures before my camera stopped working. It was hectic. There were some last miniute sewing and fitting and the fact the room was boiling hot didn’t help. But they managed to ‘make it work’ and everything came out on the runway in perfection.

All about the Front Rows

FRANCE FASHION

So it’s fashion week and finding out who is sitting on the front row is just as important as discovering the latest trends. I’m currently interning at a well-known British fashion house, whose show is on Sunday. Of course its front rows will be packed with celebrities, big fashion buyers and influential fashion editors. On Friday our system was down (typical!) but the phone never stopped ringing. There were people who were still requiring tickets to the show at last minute. One beverage company, who is our sponsor, was ruthlessly demanding five tickets to the show with front row seats. ‘No sponsor ever gets front row seats! These seats are reversed for more important people!’ the manager furiously declined their request. But the people at the beverage company wouldn’t give in. ‘Honestly I can’t even give you the second row. It’s too late. You should have asked earlier… OK I will try my best but our system isn’t working…’ By the time I left the office the negotiation was still ongoing. Wonder which row these people eventually end up with.

Miroslava Mikheeva-Duma is my latest girl crush. For those of you that might not be aware of her, she is a well known editor from Moscow whose work started at Harper’s Bazaar Russia and is now a contributor to L’Officiel Russia, Glamour Russia, the style section at Russian OK Magazine, and Tatler Magazine Russia. When I first saw her pictures on the Sartorialist, she instantly reminded me of Rachel Bilson: tiny, sweet and too adorable. Her fashion sense is finely tuned. She does wear designer from head to toe but it always has a personal touch. And I never get the impression that she takes herself or her clothes too seriously. To me that’s really cute.

There was a time when Russian style equated with tacky, but it is not the case anymore. There is a new generation of stylish Russian women like Miroslava and Dasha (new editor-in-chief at Pop Magazine) who dress to express their personalities rather than showing how much money they have. They can be occasionally flamboyant but no more than a Carine Roitfelt can be. I’d love to see more Russia fashionistas as I find their style very unique and fascinating.

Preppy Done Well

This is Olivia doing a preppy look and I think she absolutely nailed it. She looks so causal but still very chic and modern. I love how she spiced up the simple outfit with those silver shoes. The yellow finishing around the neck on her t-shirt is a nice touch too. And for once she actually looks a lot less put together than she usually does.
